CyberBridge

Starting the CyberBridge Student Organization at MSU Denver

What is the CyberBridge?

CyberBridge is a registered student organization created to Bridge the Gap from classroom to career for the aspiring technology and cybersecurity professionals enrolled at MSU Denver. By taking on leadership roles, members gain valuable experience, while all participants have opportunities to contribute to discussions, engage in hands-on activities, and even serve as subject matter experts (SMEs) on panels related to their fields.

Many undergraduate and graduate students bring valuable real-world knowledge and expertise beyond the classroom. CyberBridge fosters an environment where students can share insights, expand their skills, and integrate the social aspects of learning and professional growth.

Through a mix of online and in-person activities, we bridge the gap between graduation and employment—helping future professionals from MSU Denver build knowledge, confidence, and career readiness.

The Path to the Starting Line

During my final semester at MSU Denver in the cybersecurity Master's program, I started to notice that there were major holes in the curriculum that needed to be filled to round out the training for the students in my cohort and those to follow in order to make students more competitive in the current job market. Since I am passionate about the program and helping others achieve success, I decided to start asking around on campus if there were any student organizations that were focused on the topic of cybersecurity. I quickly found answers that the only truly cyber-focused organization was WiCyS, so I quickly joined as I supported it and figured I could meet other like-minded individuals. I joined, yet I still felt there was something missing, so I continued my search for others interested in making something for a focus on cybersecurity and giving back to our peers, campus, and community.

After attending a panel for prospective students in my program, I had a thought and pitched the idea of the organization to a few of my peers and then to a teacher in the Computer Science Department. He quickly put me in touch with an undergrad student who had been searching for something similar. I set a meeting with my co-founder and we immediately hit it off throwing ideas back and forth and that was all it took to get going on forming the organization. I met a student at the panel who mentioned that he had interest in getting involved with something that would have a cybersecurity focus and soon after gave him the offer to become our founding secretary. Having experience in the student organization realm, I drafted all the paperwork and asked for it to be reviewed by my new executive board. The vice president reigned us in an advisor for the group and we were off to the races. The rest is history and the organization still stands today from it's founding in the Fall of 2023.
